PC Fiscal Court passes resolution to establish a county fire department

By Nila Harris

The Pendleton County Fiscal Court held a regular meeting August 22 at 6 p.m.

Judge Fields read the first reading of the reapportionment Ordinance. This ordinance divides the County into Districts based on their population. Since there were no major changes in the population, all Districts and Magistrates remain the same.

A Resolution was read establishing a county volunteer fire department.

WHEREAS, the Pendleton County Fiscal Court (hereinafter, the “County”), has provided fire services to the citizens of Pendleton County through an Interlocal Agreement with the City of Falmouth, Ky, as amended, originally dated April 24, 2012, as amended; and

WHEREAS, the County utilized this Interlocal Agreement to provide services to the areas of the County which were not serviced by the existing Fire Districts, namely, Northern Pendleton Fire District and the Piner-Fiskburg Fire Protection District, the City of Butler Fire Department and the City of Falmouth Fire Department; and

WHEREAS, as of June 30, 2023, the prior Interlocal Agreement with the City of Falmouth for fire services was terminated by the City; and

WHEREAS, the City has agreed to continue to provide services to the County until the end of Fiscal Year 2024 (June 30, 2024) upon the condition that the County should seek an alternate source for fire protection and has evidenced its intention not to enter into any future Interlocal Agreement with the County to provide such services; and

WHEREAS, after due diligence by the County in exploring the options which the County could utilize for the provision of such services, the County has determined that it would be in the best interests of the citizens of Pendleton County that the County provide such services directly; and

WHEREAS, the County believes that the best manner of providing such services to its citizens is in the formation of a Volunteer County Fire Department.
