FLAT FIRE SUPPRESSION SEEING SUCCESS

August 4, 2023 10:50 a.m.

Suppression efforts on the Flat Fire in Curry County are seeing success.

A Forest Service update said aerial ignition efforts over the past several days to gain additional fire line depth between the western and east portions of Forest Systems Road 3680 in the Lawson Creek drainage is largely complete. Fuels are still drying and discontinuous in some locations. The fire will continue to move through islands of vegetation in the coming days. Additional aerial burning will be used to fill in non-contiguous areas of unburned fuel and provide additional depth.

Firefighters will work Friday to hold, secure, improve and mop up the containment line along FSR 3680. Aerial burning will continue in the Game Lake area. The western and northern containment lines, from the junction of FSR 3680 and 3318 to Wildhorse Lookout east to FSR 3577, is being actively mopped up and controlled.

Northwest Incident Management Team 3 will end its fourteen-day rotation and will be replaced by Northern Rockies Incident Management Team 2 effective at 6:00 a.m. Saturday.

The Flat Fire is listed at 31,921 acres and remains twenty-eight percent contained. 1,104 people are assigned to the fire.
